The Birth of a Theatre Company...
"I had the idea of setting up a Cornish theatre company in June 2008. I wanted to create theatre that was for the audience, for the south west and for actors who want to start a career in acting but don't want to move to the big city.
When I was twelve I was asked to appear on stage as a magician in Bugsy Malone - the show every actor/director seems to start their career with. To this day no feeling has ever matched that of being on a stage in front of an appreciative audience or sitting back after directing a show and saying "I helped to create that." It was with a great deal of anxiety that I realised if I wanted to pursue a career in theatre professionally I had no choice but to move to London: leaving behind my partner, family, friends and my home near Helston. For many years I accepted this as fact but then I began to fight the fact that I had to move away from where I had been brought up.
I hope the Dream Team will allow more people in theatre to stay in the countryside and prove that theatre is not just a metropolitan activity. I am grateful for all the support I have received since June 2008 and am so pleased that I can do theatre, and do it in Cornwall."
